Terms of Service

The short version

DiffCue is a Mac app you can try for free and then buy once for $34 (plus any tax). One license covers up to 2 Macs, includes every 1.x update, and can be refunded within 30 days. The AI features run on your own API key, so your use of that AI provider is between you and them, under their terms. DiffCue comes without warranties, and AI explanations can be wrong, so you're still the one who decides what to commit.

Who these terms are with

These terms are an agreement between you and Khaled Ahmed, an individual based in Waterdown, Ontario, Canada (“DiffCue”, “we”, “us”). They cover the DiffCue app, its license keys, the license server the app talks to, and this website.

By downloading, installing, or buying DiffCue, you agree to these terms. If you're accepting them on behalf of a company, you confirm you're allowed to do that, and “you” then means the company.

The free trial

You can try DiffCue's AI features for free before buying. The trial is currently 5 free reviews. The trial count is kept on your Mac, and it isn't sent to us. We may change the size or shape of the trial in future versions of the app.

Buying a license

DiffCue costs $34, paid once. It isn't a subscription, and nothing renews. Taxes such as sales tax, VAT, or GST may be added at checkout depending on where you live, and checkout may show the price in your local currency.

The purchase goes through Stripe's Managed Payments service, which makes Stripe the merchant of record for the sale. At checkout and on your receipt you'll see this as “Sold through Link” (Link is Stripe's checkout service), and your card statement will show LINK.COM*. Stripe takes the payment, works out and collects any tax, and sends your receipt. Stripe's checkout terms apply to the payment itself. We never see or store your card details.

After you pay, your license key is emailed to the address you used at checkout. You enter it in the app to unlock the paid features.

What the license lets you do

A license gives you a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and use DiffCue for personal or work projects, on up to 2 Macs at a time. It doesn't transfer ownership of the app. DiffCue, its code, name, and logo remain ours.

• Activation: entering your key on a Mac activates it on that Mac, which needs an internet connection. Activation registers an identifier for that Mac with our license server so we can enforce the 2-Mac limit. The Privacy Policy explains exactly what's stored.
• License checks: the app checks with our license server about once a week that your license is still valid. If it can't reach the server, your license keeps working for a grace period of about a month, after which the app needs to go online once to continue.
• Changing Macs: if you replace a Mac and hit the 2-Mac limit, email [email protected].

You agree not to:

• share, sell, rent, or publish your license key, or use someone else's;
• get around, disable, or tamper with the license checks, the 2-Mac limit, or the free trial;
• reverse engineer or modify the app, except where the law gives you that right regardless of this term;
• overload, probe, or interfere with our license server; or
• use DiffCue to break the law.

Updates

Your license includes all DiffCue 1.x updates at no extra cost. A future major version (2.0 or later) isn't automatically included; if we release one, we'll say at the time whether it's a free or paid upgrade. Updates may add, change, or remove features.

Refunds

If DiffCue isn't right for you, email [email protected] within 30 days of your purchase, from the address you bought with or with your receipt, and we'll refund the full price. You can also ask Link's support for a refund. Refunds go back to your original payment method through Stripe.

When a purchase is refunded, its license key is deactivated, and the paid features lock again the next time the app checks the license. This refund policy is in addition to any rights you have under the consumer laws where you live.

AI features and your AI provider

DiffCue's AI features are optional and use an API key that you supply for a provider you choose, such as OpenAI, OpenRouter, or another OpenAI-compatible service. When you use them, the relevant diff text is sent from your Mac directly to that provider, using your key.

• Your provider's terms apply: your use of the provider is between you and them. Their terms of service, usage policies, privacy policy, and prices govern it, and you pay them directly. We don't control those services and aren't responsible for their availability, their charges, or how they handle what you send them.
• What you send: make sure you're allowed to send the code you review to your chosen provider, for example under your employer's or client's policies.
• AI can be wrong: explanations and answers can be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading. They're there to help you review a change, and they don't replace your own judgment. You're responsible for the code you commit and ship.

Your code

Your code and repositories stay yours. We don't claim any rights to them, and DiffCue doesn't upload them to us. The Privacy Policy describes the data DiffCue does handle.

No warranty

DiffCue is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't promise that DiffCue will be error-free or uninterrupted, that its AI output will be accurate, or that the license server will always be reachable.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, or code, arising from or related to DiffCue or these terms. Our total liability for any claim related to DiffCue is limited to the amount you paid for your DiffCue license.

Some places don't allow these exclusions or limits. Where that's the case, they apply only as far as the law permits, and nothing in these terms limits liability that can't legally be limited.

Ending the license

You can stop using DiffCue at any time. Your license ends, and we'll deactivate its key, if the purchase is refunded, if the payment is reversed through a chargeback or dispute, or if you seriously break these terms (for example, by sharing your key publicly). The sections on warranties, liability, and governing law continue to apply after the license ends.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time, for example when DiffCue's features change. When we do, we'll post the new version on this page and change the date at the top. If you keep using DiffCue after a change, the updated terms apply to that use, but a change won't take away the one-time license, the 2-Mac allowance, or the 1.x updates you already paid for.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be handled by the courts of the Province of Ontario. If you're a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.
